District Governor’s Message – August 2019

My dear fellow Rotarians,

August is Membership and New Club Development Month. A timely reminder that we must put in extra effort and find new ways to increase our club membership by sharing Rotary. Let us Connect to Share Rotary. We all owe our Rotary membership to the person who invited us to join. Now it’s up to us to extend that favour to others and invite them to join Rotary. Rotary is by invitation only. Hence, every member is responsible to invite any potential member to attend our club meetings. If we do not invite, how are we going to get them to join us? Especially those members who have been enjoying Rotary since you became a Rotarian but has never propose a single member to the club. Start sharing Rotary today!

To keep our clubs strong, every Rotarian must share the responsibility of bringing new people into Rotary. Let us bring guests to club meetings or invite them to participate in a service project. The value of Rotary speaks for itself, and the best way to spark the interest of potential members is by letting them experience fellowship and service firsthand.

We must also not forget retention. Keeping our members interested in Rotary is another responsibility. Good club fellowship, active involvement in service projects and activities are some of the best ways to sustain the club’s membership. The ideal composition of a Rotary club reflects the community’s demographics, including professions, gender, age, and ethnicity. Such diversity enriches every aspect of the club’s fellowship and service. Let us share this heavy responsibility with our Membership Chairmen by helping to get new members to join our club. With strong commitment, we will get more members that will ensure the continuity of Rotary and Connect to Grow.

We must not be complacent and stay in comfort zone but work harder towards achieving our target membership of 2,222 for District 3300 in Rotary Year 2019-20:

  1. Clubs to achieve 90% retention.
  2. Clubs with 12 members and below to have a net gain of 3 members.
  3. Clubs with 20 members and below to have a net gain of 5 members.
  4. All other Clubs to have a net gain of 8 members.
  5. Clubs to sponsor at least 5 new Rotary Clubs including bilingual clubs.
  6. Each Group to target to set-up 1 new Rotary Club.

We just concluded our 1st Vibrant Club Joint Meeting (VCJM) on Membership, Public Image and The Rotary Foundation in Kampar, Perak recently with 92 participants from clubs of Group 3,4,5 and 9.

We had a good crowd of active participants ranging from aged 77 years with more than 35 years in Rotary and participants with less than a year in Rotary engaging and sharing their ideas in the brainstorming café sessions. A big “Thank You” to all for making it happen. Next, look out for coming VCJM:21 September Vibrant Club Joint Meeting Groups 7, 8, 12 & 13 – Kuala Lumpur12 October Vibrant Club Joint Meeting Groups 6, 10, 11 & 17– Temerloh. Enjoying Rotary by sharing Rotary is our obligation as someone has shared Rotary with us and given us the opportunity to serve our community. Now Let Us Connect to Grow Rotary as ROTARY CONNECTS THE WORLD!
